SAVANNAH RACE PREPARATION - On Wednesday, July
2nd, 2003, the Lucas Oil Scarab crew will meet in Daytona to complete
preparation for this weekends GMC Pro Grade Super Series race in Savannah,
Georgia.
Craig
Archer
will be landing again all the way from New Zealand, a trek he keenly
makes for each National APBA race. The Team Captain Nigel Hook will be
flying
in from California, along with his wife Janet and his Marketing Manager
Keli Gunn.
Thursday morning early final testing will be done on a Lake West of Daytona
about half an hour from the race shop, SLM Boats. Thursday afternoon,
the team plans to head north to Georgia, ready for the Friday morning
Speed Trials on the Savannah River downtown by the Convention Center.
Saturday will be happy hour practice, with the big race at noon on
Sunday out in the Atlantic Ocean off Tybee Island.
"We are quite optimistic for the race in Savannah", remarked
Nigel Hook. He described the course: "this should be a fast track
with no chicanes and only five left hand turns, of course we will pray
for rough seas". The weather forecasts have been predicting storms
so we might see some tough conditions out there. "We'll feel a bit
more pressure for this race as we'll have a couple of old friends and
racing aficionados joining us as guests". The team will be joined
by Rodrick Cox from Cox Marketing Group, the manager of the NASCAR Winston
Cup program, Jeff Burton (CITGO). Also with the team will be Todd
Bodine (Army National Guard) and Dave Goodman, who both accompanied Nigel
to Afghanistan
and the
Persian
Gulf along with Tony Schumacher, Jerry Nadeau and Geoffrey Bodine.
"We also have to do well as we told the whole Freak Nation on Sunday
night about the race!" said Nigel. The entire Lucas motorsports program
was the focus of the two hour show, hosted by Kenny Sargent, Stratt Mann
Caruthers, Lugg Nuttz and the sensuous Crash "the Bud girl" Gladys.
After interviews with the NASCAR Busch Winner and the NASCAR Truck Winner,
the show was stolen by Forrest Lucas, CEO of Lucas Oil Products. This
motorsports radio show is always a high octane party and Forrest was perfect
with his passion for racing and his drive for making Lucas Oil The
World's Leader in High Performance and Heavy Duty Lubricants. The
show is called SpeedFreaks.
"I'm not quite sure they were used to a Gentleman Racer, but I think
the contrast was entertaining", remarked Nigel Hook who was interviewed
after Kenny Bernstein's son Brandon; NHRA's Bud King, Lucas Oil Multi
Champ; Steven Christian, Lucas Oil's Hooter ProCup Driver; and Morgan
Lucas, Lucas Oil's Top Fuel Driver.
